![]() ![]() In fact, the diversity of thought and perception of action made The Mark of Athena that much more enjoyable. Despite there being four demigods telling the story, I was not lost. Overall Opinion: Rick Riordan did not disappoint (ha! Like I expected him to!)! I fell in love with this book and can’t wait for its sequel, The House of Hades, coming out in October! There were 41 people ahead of me for it at my library, yet I didn’t gobble it up as quickly as you would think I would. You have NO IDEA how long I had to wait for this book to fall into my greedy hands. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? What books have you read where the romance became way too much? Let me know and I’ll see you guys again soon! □ However, from what I’ve seen, romances that, at first, were nicely added spices to the book they were in have now become too spicy, and, therefore, unbearable. In the end, this is my opinion, not fact. True love conquers all? More like true love kills all- as in kill all the joy I’m supposed to have reading the book. However, from what I saw, her and Percy became extremely lovey-dovey, which took away from the cool Olympian stuff happening. Now, you’ve got to take into account that the farthest I’ve read is Mark of Athena, so maybe Annabeth’s gotten better, maybe she’s gotten worse- let me know (On another note, I heard about Hades’ son, Nico. Even when she started developing feelings for Percy, she stayed in check she was still cool.Īnnabeth became so mushy-mushy to me. Annabeth was the BA fighter daughter of Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom. ‘Overload’ is exactly what Percy and Annabeth’s relationship is. A man smothering his wife because she went somewhere else in the house and it was quiet for an entire five minutes? That’s an overload. But imagine if this reaction was on overload? For instance, a woman bursting into tears every time her husband had to go to work. When you truly love someone, you do miss them when they’re gone. Your heart will ache, you’ll shed the tears, and when they come back, you’ll be overjoyed. If the person you love is gone for a long time, obviously, you’re gonna’ miss them. Percy Jackson and Annabeth (from Percy Jackson & The Olympians The Heroes of Olympus) This is lust, and it’s disgusting that their romance focuses on it more than necessary (even the first blow was more than necessary). You never see them have it, but it’s hinted at several times that they ‘suffer’ because they don’t. Sex is the Achilles’ Heel of this couple. ![]() What’s even worse? Connor feels bad because he actually believes in this crap! By saying what she did, Risa undermines every trait Connor has/applies that a real real man has and applies: bravery, trust, focus, compassion, reasonableness, and so on and so on. Also, it makes Risa look extremely shallow. ![]() This is an insult to couples who are abstaining from sex and to the definition of manhood. It was when Risa implied that Connor treating her ‘like a man would’ meant having a sexual relationship. I mentioned in my book review of UnWholly a point of the book I didn’t like. How? By leaning more and more on the sexual side of the relationship. As soon as Shusterman saw that he had something good going, he set out to ruin it. That’s all good,” you may say, “but what happened? When did the relationship go bad?”Īmazingly, Connor and Risa’s relationship started rotting in the second book of the Unwind Series. At first, you may not like the person you meet, but as you learn more about them, you become closer to that person. I’m fine with this set up, and I’m going to tell you why. Oh, how I loved them, and now how I loathe them.Īt first, theirs was the typical teen romance: guy meets girl, vice versa, guy and girl don’t like each other at first, but then learn about the good qualities the other possesses. First up is…Ĭonnor Lassiter and Risa Ward (from the Unwind Series) My point is when that romance goes from being cool subplot to cliché annoyance. YA novels usually (practically always) have a subplot romance- unless it’s mainly a romance novel, then the romance is the main plot. ![]()
